“Creating isn’t what I do. It’s who I am.” From the time she was a toddler scribbling with crayon on her mother’s front door, to her recent creations years later showing in Stewart Heath Gallery, Dawn has always created and absolutely loves every second of it.
Residing in Fairhope, Dawn and her family moved to the Eastern Shore in 2017 from Delaware. Graduating from college in Philadelphia, she majored in both Graphic Design and Illustration. Being a seasoned graphic designer and artist, she loves to combine her knowledge of both in her creations. Not wanting to be pigeon-holed into a particular medium or style, she creates based on mood and inspirations using multiple mediums such as acrylics, oils, colored pencils, charcoal, and pastels. Favoring acrylics over oils, her paintings of late tend to taken on an impressionist feel with thin paint strokes layered on top of each other in a semi-deliberate way. She loves the element of surprise color shifting paint provides, and almost never uses black or white allowing the colors of the piece to maintain their true form and not be dulled in their magic.
When she isn’t creating or teaching, she’s spending time with her husband and three kids either traveling to a soccer game, walking the piers, or catching a show in New Orleans. From its gorgeous sunsets and rolling fields, to its numerous events of beautiful Gulf Shores, the South offers an abundance of inspiration and beauty. Something she continually hopes to portray in her art, and feels beyond blessed to see.
